DHI Hair Transplant

DHI Hair Transplant

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is a modern hair transplantation technique that is similar in many ways to the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method but with some unique features. DHI is known for its precision and minimal handling of grafts during the transplantation process.

Procedure: DHI is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure that involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area (typically the back or sides of the head) and implanting them directly into the recipient area (the bald or thinning region) without the need for creating recipient site incisions beforehand.

Choi Implanter Pen: The key feature of DHI is the use of a specialized tool called the Choi Implanter Pen. This pen-like device has a hollow needle at its tip and a plunger mechanism. It allows for precise control over the angle, depth, and direction of graft placement.

Implantation Process: During the DHI procedure, hair follicles are carefully extracted one by one from the donor area using a micro punch or similar instrument. The harvested grafts are then loaded into the Choi Implanter Pen. The surgeon or technician can then create tiny incisions in the recipient area using the pen and simultaneously implant the grafts into these incisions.

Anaesthesia: Local anaesthesia is administered to numb both the donor and recipient areas, ensuring that the procedure is virtually painless for the patient.

Recovery: The recovery period for DHI is like other hair transplantation methods. Patients may experience some discomfort, swelling, and scabbing in both the donor and recipient areas for a few days to a week after the procedure.

Results: As with other hair transplantation techniques, the transplanted hair will initially shed within a few weeks, and new hair growth begins within a few months. Full results typically become visible in 9-12 months.

Scarring: DHI leaves minimal scarring in the donor and recipient areas, making it a preferred choice for those who want to wear their hair short. The tiny incisions heal quickly and are less noticeable compared to the linear scar associated with Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT).

Natural Look: DHI Hair Transplant aims to provide a natural-looking hairline and overall appearance, thanks to the precise control over graft placement afforded by the Choi Implanter Pen.

Suitability: DHI Hair Transplant can be suitable for a wide range of patients, including those with varying degrees of hair loss and those who require a smaller number of grafts. However, the specific suitability of DHI depends on individual factors and should be discussed with a qualified hair transplant surgeon.
